The 2025 season for the Nebraska Cornhuskers softball team was nothing short of historic — an offensive onslaught that rewrote program record books and made the “Huskers” nearly unstoppable at the plate. The team finished 43-15 overall, 17-5 in conference play, and advanced all the way to the NCAA Super Regionals — their first trip since 2014.

Offensively, Nebraska exploded. The 2025 squad set new school-season marks in virtually every key category: they smashed a staggering 106 home runs, cranked out 216 extra-base hits, and scored 452 runs by season’s end — career highs across the board. Their batting average (.356), slugging percentage (.648), and on-base percentage (.438) all ranked first in school history.

The team operates two HitTrax units throughout the off-season, and Mandie Nocita — Director of Video Technology, Analytics, and Player Development — shared how dramatically the technology has elevated their training.

“From the start, the technology has impressed both players and coaches with its speed, accuracy, and ease of use. The unit processes results instantly, creating efficient and productive hitting sessions whether there’s a single athlete in the cage or an entire lineup rotating through.

“From the start, the technology has impressed both players and coaches with its speed, accuracy, and ease of use. The unit processes results instantly, creating efficient and productive hitting sessions whether there’s a single athlete in the cage or an entire lineup rotating through. With almost no lag time and reliable metrics, hitters get immediate feedback they can trust. The seamless pairing of swing video with real-time data has become one of the most valuable features. As soon as a swing is taken, the video replays alongside metrics like exit velocity, launch angle, direction, and distance, giving every type of athlete—visual learners, analytical minds, and even “feel” players—a clear and personalized path to development.

Each player now trains with a set of baselines and individualized goals, and HitTrax gives them the tools to measure their progress every step of the way. Whether they’re working with a coach or getting extra reps on their own, they can see the improvements they’re making and understand how their adjustments translate into results. Because every athlete learns and develops differently, the system’s ability to adapt to each player’s style has been a major advantage.

The team uses HitTrax year-round, finding value in every phase of the season. Early on, it helps reinforce mechanics and build repeatable swings. Later, it plays a key role in situational hitting and competitive reps. Even on days when the weather forces practice indoors, HitTrax allows the team to simulate live environments and stay sharp.

Within the coaching staff, the Director of Player Development leads the way in using the system, diving deep into the analytics and technological features. The hitting coaches follow closely behind, incorporating HitTrax into nearly everything they do offensively. While the program knows there’s potential to use it more for pitching, bullpens, and catching, the primary focus has remained on boosting offensive performance.

Much of the team’s training revolves around video analysis and individualized profiles, especially since the cages offer limited ball flight. Being able to see how the ball would travel beyond the nets—and to pair those results with slow-motion video—has helped hitters better understand cause and effect in their swings. Reports and tools within the system give coaches deeper insight into what’s working, what’s trending, and where players can refine their approach.

The integration of ViewPoint video analysis with iPhones and iPads has also streamlined the daily routine. Using designated tablets on tripods, the staff records and reviews swings with ease, and the ViewPoint connectivity has proven simple and reliable once set up. It’s made capturing and analyzing video more efficient, helping the team stay consistent with their development process.

Overall, HitTrax has become an essential part of the program’s training environment—a tool that brings clarity, purpose, and measurable progress to every athlete who steps into the cage.”
